During this vast swine-flu storm, a new YouTube video has been the trigger of an overwhelming controversy in Colombia, a fantastic country filled with stupid, selfish and thoughtless people. The video has created, most of all, funny and childish commentaries about how idiot our country is, about the ignorance of our population and about the causes of our terrible situation. All of those, by the way, very common commentaries when something stupid happens in Colombia; which is, in fact, a very regular thing.
One serious opinion, however, called my attention. Ricardo Silva, a columnist for the biggest newspaper in the country, used this as an excuse to explain his theory: new generations, young generations, are wearing facemasks: they aren't concerned about the world they life in, they don’t want to change anything about it, they just want to fit in the system and individually handle its rules the best way possible.
Is that true? Is that avant-garde and revolutionary spirits of the young generations over? What happened with the ‘60s-like, groundbreaking young generations?
I don’t have the answer, dear Marilyn. I don’t really care that much. The only thing I could say, though, is, PLEASE, PEOPLE, SAY SOMETHING!!
